We could not fail to pause at the Amalfian Coast and at Cava de’ Tirreni, close to the so-called “costiera Cilentana”, the coastline between the Gulf of Salerno and the Gulf of Policastro
Torquato Tasso, born in Sorrento, described the Sorrentine – Amalfian coasts as:
“ …Coi Fiori eterni eterno il frutto dura e mentre spunta l’un l’altro matura ”
(with eternal flowers, eternally the fruit endures as one buds as another ripens)
Cava de’ Tirreni could be said to be the gateway to the whole of the Amalfian coast; It is an ancient city with Etruscan origins and as well as its ancient monuments is also in a splendid location straddling the mountains and the sea
Pretty much the whole of the stretch of coast is a crossroads of different cultures and origins but it is united by the magnificence of its archaeological sites, monuments and the quite unique towns and cities along these unforgettable shores
Cava de’ Tirreni is located a little further south on the Amalfian coast as we approach Cilento…. A WWF natural oasis
The area has much in the way of heritage recognised by UNESCO, as well as the particularly interesting Cilento National Park.
…with natural reserves where is its still possible encounter wolves and wild boar, and the park is also famous for the spectacular caves known as the “grotte di Castelcivita”.
