Between the Ionian and the Adriatic seas, on the last bit of the “heal” of Italy’s boot, lies Salento, an ideal destination for your holidays.
Local traditions still thrive in this varied landscape where visitors can enjoy a beautiful natural setting and see many sites that bear witness to ancient civilisations.
There are chalk caves to visit along the Adriatic coast and there are also walking trails among unspoilt countryside from just outside the town. You however prefer just to relax on the fine white sand beaches or enjoy the views of the magnificent centuries’ old olive groves that stud the inland areas.
The baroque cities and the fine town houses are also well worth seeing, as are the coastal towers and the historical churches that are true jewels of the area’s history and art.
This is a region of art and culture, particularly the area of Lecce which shows clear traces of the numerous peoples that have passed this way….
